November is just a few days away….

Now is the time that everybody thinks “I may as well forget about my weight and health until January first….holidays are coming. Nothing I can do now.”

But with Intermittent Fasting, that couldn’t be further from the truth!

In three weeks, you could have your hormones balanced, your appetite corrected, your cravings reduced, your brain fog gone, your energy up, and your fat starting to burn away.

Last year at this time, my husband and I decided not to let the fact that the holidays were so near (I began IF in early November; he started the first week of December!) stop us from beginning this lifestyle of Intermittent Fasting.
We had actually come to a crisis in our health…well, sort of a “first world” crisis.
On the first Sunday in December, we loaded our car with desserts and door prizes and headed for our yearly Christmas dance for the ballroom dance club that we are officers in. We were happy and excited!

The Christmas dance is always festive…..we have a dinner, dance to Christmas music (oh my…don’t get me started on swinging to “All I Want for Christmas Is You!”), and visit with friends. It always feels like the “first” true welcoming of the Christmas season (besides our family Christmas decorating appetizer party with our twelve grown kids and kids-in-love!). We couldn’t wait.

Until we got onto the dance floor.
Ray Baby (everybody calls him that…feel free to if you see him!) couldn’t dance. Period.
His knee, with 120 extra pounds of body fat pushing on it with every step, simply couldn’t take it.
It had been coming on for a while, but never had it stopped us in our “dancing tracks.” He was always able to “ibuprofin” through….

But not tonight.
We stopped mid-way through the first dance and never got back on the dance floor that night.
It was heart-breaking for both of us. (I know this sounds overly dramatic, but dancing for the past fourteen years has truly been our way of doing something just for us and for each other, while finishing the raising of our seven kids.)

We served pie, visited, and enjoyed the music. Then packed up and went home.
We didn’t talk about what we were going to do on the drive home. He could try some more steroid shots or those gel things or just stay off the dance floor for a while. But we both knew what he had to do: He had to get serious about losing weight if we were going to continue to dance.
By this time I had already been Intermittent Fasting for over a month and had lost weight in that month despite a week’s vacation and Thanksgiving!
The next day, he came home from work and announced that he had not eaten all day that day. We ate dinner together. And the rest is history, as they say!

He didn’t talk about it. Didn’t make a big plan. Didn’t announce it. He simply stopped eating 20 hours a day as he had watched me do….and the weight began pouring off of him.
As of last week, we have lost nearly 110 pounds together! He has 24 remaining. I have 19 remaining.
And we started during the holidays! Let that sink in!

How many “diets” do you start during the holidays and actually come out with a net loss?
While enjoying the holiday foods to their fullest–with no deprivation or substitutions?

And it can be the same for you!
As I mentioned at the beginning of this article, you can have your blood sugar, insulin, ghrelin (hunger hormone), leptin (satiety hormone), and more all balanced by Thanksgiving!

You can actually lose weight this holiday season instead of gaining.
You can go into January first with weight loss and health changes well underway rather than waiting until that elusive first of the new year!
So instead of being “the worst time to embark on a weight loss and health journey,” November is the PERFECT time!
